Keeping residential areas clean is one of the best ways to control pests and stay healthy. Plus, the entire quality of life improves. However, without proper cooperation of residents and the attentiveness of workers, waste removal can be a hazardous job for both parties.

  • Make Sure Lid Fully Closes

While it can be tempting to cram as much trash into your waste container as possible, a lid that cannot fully close can be a major safety hazard. Workers need to be extra careful when they handle a trash bin with an open lid to avoid spilling trash. Wind can also cause the lid to fully open and can cause the trash to disperse over residential properties. It’s a matter of safety to only fill a waste container enough that the lid can still fully close.

  • Reduce Odor Around Waste Area

Reducing the odor around your waste area will help keep insects and other animals away from your trash and property. You can do this by tightly bagging your trash before putting it in your container. Odor-cancelling and heavy-duty trash bags are another line of defense against strong odors.

  • Prepare for Bulk Items

For items that do not fit into a waste container, it’s important to contact your waste removal provider. They will be able to let their workers know about your bulky items so they can be prepared to properly remove it for you.

  • Be Aware of Vehicle Proximity

Everyone must pay attention to both moving and parked vehicles. Residents should place their waste containers far enough away from their cars to ensure safe and easy container maneuvering. Drivers must also take extra caution when driving around waste removal workers and waste containers.  Workers should always pay attention to traffic and take caution for both moving and parked vehicles as well.
